Botulinum Toxin Type A is a protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum, which blocks the electrical impulses that make the facial muscles contract. Used as a cosmetic ingredient, it can be injected into your muscles to temporarily block signals from your nervous system that tell certain muscles to move. Thus, relaxing the muscles in the targeted area and smoothing fine lines and wrinkles which would normally present. The brands of Botulinum Toxin Type A I use are Azzalure® and Dysport® most commonly.

All anti-wrinkle treatments must be performed in surgery (in Barnes, SW London), as a prescription is required to use botulinum toxin in a clinical setting.

Filler treatments can be carried out both in-surgery and mobile, meaning I can come to you for fillers.

Unlike dermal fillers, many areas of anti-wrinkle injections are superficial, meaning that they are often injected into the top layer of the skin. Thus, meaning these injections are relatively pain free, depending on the area being injected. I will always make sure you know what to expect from each injection prior to administration and can discuss any concerns you might have before treatment goes ahead.

Wrinkle-relaxing treatment requires minimal recovery and downtime. The procedure itself is a quick one, and you may even be able to return to work immediately afterwards. You should avoid working out for at least a few hours after the injections. But after 24 hours, you should be able to resume all your normal activities.

It takes several days for results to be fully recognised. Free top-ups are offered 2 weeks post-treatment, should they be necessary. However, please note that this will be to my discretion on an individual basis. Please get in touch if you think you may need a top-up.

Most patients who use wrinkle-relaxing injections for cosmetic facial purposes, will find that their results will last 3-6 months. Regular top-ups following this are required in order to maintain results and slow the overall signs of ageing with time.

Absolutely! When performing anti-wrinkle injections, as long as the utmost care is taken during placement, ensuring the correct amount of botulinum toxin is administered to each site, only the muscles we want to affect are targeted. When administered correctly, your anti-wrinkle injections may leave people noticing your lovely smooth appearance, but I endeavour to make sure all results are completely natural and as discreet as possible, whilst still achieving the desired result.

Generally, most have very little side effects to wrinkle-relaxing therapy. Although, as with every medical procedure, side effects are possible. These are generally minor and include redness, swelling, itching and bruising at the injection site and occasionally mild headaches if upper face has been targeted. These are often short-lived and will diminish after several days. In very rare instances, it is possible to have an allergic reaction to botulinum toxin, which is why all anti-wrinkle injections must be carried out in-surgery, so that they can be treated quickly and safely.

Complications, albeit rare, can happen to even the most highly skilled injectors; which is why it is imperative that we know exactly how to act in these instances. Be rest assured, if ever any treatments were not to go to exactly plan, I am fully trained (by Dr Tim Pearce, Skin Viva) in the handling of all complications associated with non-surgical facial aesthetics.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should not have botulinum toxin injections. Also, patients that have had a previous allergic reaction to botulinum toxin should avoid this type of treatment.

On average, wrinkle relaxing lasts for 3-4 months, but results can last up to 6 months This depends on the dose administered, the individual’s metabolism and the strength of the muscle injected. After this time, you may decide to come for maintenance appointments twice per year, or more.
